The demolition of industrial facilities requires thorough technical planning when adjacent structures must remain operational and protected throughout the execution of the works. In this project, INCIMAT developed the complete engineering package for the controlled demolition of a large-span steel industrial building, including the preliminary structural assessment, the definition of dismantling phases, and the evaluation of potential impacts on adjacent buildings and operational facilities.
The scope of work included the preparation of the demolition engineering project, the definition of construction procedures, the development of structural verifications for the various dismantling stages, and the planning of the safety measures required to ensure the stability of elements that were to remain in service. The facility consisted of long-span steel portal frames, lightweight roofing systems, industrial cladding, and associated auxiliary installations.
One of the main challenges of the project was the coexistence with adjacent structures that had to be preserved. To address this, temporary strengthening measures were designed and a dedicated demolition sequence was developed to minimize accidental loading, avoid impacts on shared structural elements, and maintain the operational continuity of nearby facilities throughout the demolition process.
The engineering work also included the management of existing services and infrastructure, such as utility networks, technical systems, fire protection installations, industrial piping, and auxiliary equipment that required prior removal, relocation, or protection. In parallel, waste management procedures, environmental protection measures, and safety protocols were established to ensure the safe execution of the works within an active industrial environment.
This type of project demonstrates INCIMAT’s capability to undertake complex industrial demolition operations by integrating structural engineering, construction planning, risk assessment, and technical coordination, ensuring safe, efficient, and operationally compatible project execution.
