INCIMAT carried out an advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) study to evaluate the effectiveness of ventilation and heat removal systems within a room housing high-power electrical equipment.
The scope of work included the three-dimensional modeling of the facility, considering the actual arrangement of electrical switchboards, transformers, variable frequency drives, auxiliary systems, and ventilation equipment, as well as the thermal loads generated during normal operating conditions.
Using CFD simulations, airflow behavior, temperature distributions, recirculation zones, and the capacity of the ventilation system to remove heat generated by the equipment were analyzed in detail. The study also identified potential hot spots that could affect the reliability and service life of the installation.
The assessment enabled the evaluation of different ventilation and extraction configurations, optimizing the placement of grilles, fans, and HVAC systems to improve thermal performance and ensure appropriate operating conditions.
The results provided a solid technical basis for design decision-making, helping to enhance operational safety, reduce overheating-related risks, and optimize the energy consumption of the ventilation systems.
