Simulation of Smoke Propagation in an Industrial Building

INCIMAT developed a smoke propagation simulation for an industrial building, evaluating the behavior of the hot gases generated during a fire scenario and their impact on occupant safety, evacuation, and the protection of the facility.

The study included the geometric definition of the building, the characterization of fire compartments, ventilation conditions, fire load, and possible fire development scenarios.

Using advanced simulation, the evolution of the smoke layer, temperatures, visibility, propagation speed, and flow behavior within the industrial space were analyzed, identifying critical zones and areas of greatest smoke accumulation.

The study made it possible to evaluate the effectiveness of smoke evacuation systems, natural or mechanical ventilation, compartmentalization, and control strategies, providing technical criteria to improve the building’s safety.

The result was an analytical tool designed to optimize fire protection measures and ensure safer conditions during evacuation and emergency response.
