Verification of Complex Metal Connections in an Industrial Process Tower

INCIMAT conducted a structural verification of complex steel connections in an industrial process tower, analyzing the load-bearing behavior of the main joints subjected to high stresses resulting from the facility’s operation.

The work included the evaluation of connections between columns, beams, bracing, operating platforms, and equipment supports, considering combinations of axial forces, shear forces, bending moments, and torsional forces generated by various load conditions.

Detailed inspections were performed on gusset plates, stiffeners, welds, high-strength fasteners, and load-transfer elements, verifying both the local strength of the components and the overall behavior of the connection.

During the analysis process, stress concentrations, local deformations, potential failure mechanisms, and fabrication and assembly criteria were studied, ensuring the constructability of the adopted solutions.

The result was a comprehensive validation of the structure’s critical connections, ensuring efficient force transmission and safe performance of the process tower under the anticipated service and design conditions.
