Vortex Shedding Analysis of a Slender Structure

INCIMAT carried out a vortex shedding analysis of a slender structure, evaluating the interaction between wind flow and the geometry of the element to determine potential aerodynamic excitation phenomena and the resulting dynamic response.

The scope of work included the characterization of site-specific wind conditions, the geometric assessment of the structure, and the evaluation of vortex formation and alternating shedding mechanisms across different wind velocity ranges.

Using advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations, the flow patterns around the structure were analyzed in detail, identifying separation regions, recirculation zones, and turbulent wake formations capable of generating significant dynamic loads.

The results enabled the assessment of resonance risks, wind-induced vibrations, and potential effects on structural integrity, providing valuable design criteria aimed at improving the aerodynamic performance of the installation.

The study supported the implementation of optimization and mitigation measures, contributing to enhanced safety, reliability, and service life of industrial structures subjected to demanding wind conditions.
