Structural Verification of an Elevated Potable Water Storage Tank

INCIMAT carried out the structural verification of an elevated potable water storage tank, assessing its load-bearing capacity under the actions associated with water storage, environmental loads, and the service conditions expected throughout its operational life.

The scope of work included the geometric assessment of the tank, the characterization of the supporting structure, the review of materials, connections, bracing systems, access platforms, and auxiliary components associated with the operation and maintenance of the facility.

During the study, permanent loads, hydrostatic pressure, wind actions, dynamic effects associated with the stored water volume, maintenance loads, and the most unfavorable load combinations were thoroughly evaluated.

Using advanced structural models, the overall behavior of the system was verified through the analysis of stresses, deformations, stability, buckling of steel members, support capacity, and load transfer mechanisms to the foundation system.

The result was a comprehensive technical assessment aimed at ensuring the safety, durability, and reliability of the elevated storage tank, enabling the validation of its structural performance and, where necessary, the definition of reinforcement or maintenance measures.
