Structural Verification of a Wind Turbine Foundation

INCIMAT carried out the structural verification of a wind turbine foundation, evaluating its load-bearing capacity under the actions transmitted by the tower and generating equipment during the various operating conditions of the turbine.

The scope of work included the analysis of gravity loads, wind actions, dynamic effects, overturning moments, fatigue loads, and load combinations associated with both normal operation and extreme wind turbine scenarios.

Using advanced finite element models, the behavior of the reinforced concrete foundation was verified, assessing stress distribution, deformations, internal forces, and load transfer mechanisms to the supporting ground.

The study also included the verification of reinforcement detailing, punching shear resistance, global stability, soil-structure interaction, and the performance of the anchoring systems connecting the tower to the foundation.

The results enabled the validation of the foundation’s structural capacity, the identification of potential strengthening requirements, and the assurance of adequate safety and durability conditions for the long-term operation of the wind energy facility.
