INCIMAT carried out the structural verification of a steel silo intended for cement storage, evaluating its load-bearing performance under operational loads, environmental actions, and the specific conditions associated with the storage of powdered bulk materials.
The scope of work included the analysis of the silo geometry, shell plate thicknesses, stiffeners, discharge hopper, support system, reinforcing rings, maintenance platforms, and auxiliary components associated with the loading and unloading processes.
During the study, the effects resulting from stored material pressures, filling and discharge loads, wind actions, self-weight, maintenance loads, and potential accidental operating conditions were thoroughly assessed.
Using advanced structural models, stresses, deformations, local shell stability, buckling behavior, support performance, and stress concentrations in critical areas of the silo were evaluated in detail.
The result was a comprehensive technical verification aimed at ensuring the safety, durability, and reliable operation of the steel silo throughout its service life, providing validation criteria and identifying potential opportunities for structural optimization.
