Structural Design of Reinforced Concrete Cooling Towers

INCIMAT carried out the structural design of reinforced concrete cooling towers, evaluating their load-bearing performance under the actions typically associated with these large-scale industrial structures, characterized by their considerable height and distinctive geometry.

The scope of work included the analysis of permanent loads, wind actions, thermal effects, operating conditions, potential dynamic loads, and the structural demands arising from the characteristic hyperbolic geometry of cooling towers.

Using advanced structural models, the overall behavior of the tower was verified, including the reinforced concrete shell, stiffening rings, support base, inclined columns, and the auxiliary structural elements associated with the facility.

During the development of the project, particular attention was paid to global stability, membrane stresses, bending effects, local buckling phenomena, cracking behavior, deformation control, and the long-term durability of the concrete under industrial environmental conditions.

The result was a safe, robust, and optimized structural solution designed to ensure the stability, functionality, and long-term service life of the cooling tower throughout its operational lifespan.
