Structural Design of a Steel Support Structure for Heat Exchangers

INCIMAT carried out the structural design of a steel support structure for industrial heat exchangers, evaluating its load-bearing capacity under equipment loads and the operating conditions typical of a process plant.

The scope of work included the definition of the support structure geometry, the characterization of permanent loads, maintenance live loads, thermal actions, loads transmitted by connected piping systems, and potential dynamic effects associated with plant operation.

Using advanced structural models, columns, beams, bracing systems, base plates, connections, and foundations were verified, assessing both ultimate limit states and serviceability requirements, including allowable deformation criteria.

During the development of the project, particular attention was given to the compatibility between the steel support structure, the heat exchangers, process piping systems, and the access requirements for inspection, maintenance, and operational activities.

The result was a safe, efficient, and optimized steel structure tailored to the functional requirements of the supported equipment, ensuring the stability, durability, and reliable operation of the overall industrial system.
