INCIMAT conducted a hygrothermal study aimed at evaluating the performance of the building envelope of an existing structure undergoing an energy retrofit, analyzing the risk of surface and interstitial condensation in exterior walls, roofs, and building joints.
The project included characterizing the existing materials, defining new construction solutions, and analyzing the thermal and humidity conditions to which the building would be subjected throughout its service life.
Using hygrothermal simulation models, the evolution of temperatures, moisture content, and water vapor fluxes through the various building components was evaluated, allowing for the identification of specific areas with a potential risk of condensation and material degradation.
The study made it possible to optimize the composition of facades, insulation, vapor barriers, and ventilation systems, ensuring an appropriate balance between energy efficiency, the durability of the building envelope, and occupant comfort.
The result was a technically validated construction solution capable of minimizing the risk of moisture-related issues and improving the overall energy performance of the renovated building.
