Hydrogen Dispersion Simulation in a Semi-Enclosed Facility

INCIMAT carried out an advanced hydrogen dispersion simulation within a semi-enclosed facility, evaluating the behavior of the gas under potential leak scenarios and assessing the ventilation and air renewal conditions of the installation.

The scope of work included the three-dimensional modeling of the facility, considering the geometry of the installation, the location of equipment and obstacles, potential release points, and representative environmental operating conditions.

Using advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) techniques, the study analyzed hydrogen dispersion paths, buoyancy-driven upward movement, local accumulation phenomena, gas pocket formation, and the influence of natural and mechanical ventilation systems on gas dilution and removal.

The results enabled the identification of potentially critical concentration zones, the optimization of openings and ventilation system layouts, and the assessment of the effectiveness of the safety measures implemented within the facility.

The study provided essential technical information for the safe design of hydrogen-based installations, contributing to the minimization of operational risks and ensuring adequate ventilation and gas dispersion conditions throughout the facility.
