Foundation Analysis of a Large-Capacity Storage Tank

INCIMAT carried out the structural analysis of the foundation for a large-capacity storage tank, evaluating its performance under the loads transmitted by the tank itself, the stored product, and the environmental actions expected throughout its service life.

The scope of work included the geometric definition of the foundation system, the characterization of permanent and variable loads, the assessment of bearing pressures transmitted to the supporting ground, the evaluation of potential differential settlements, and the analysis of the interaction between the tank, the foundation, and the underlying soil.

Using advanced structural analysis models, stresses, deformations, global stability, pressure distributions beneath the foundation, and stress concentrations in the most heavily loaded areas were evaluated in detail.

The study enabled the verification of the suitability of the proposed foundation solution, the identification of potential critical zones, and the establishment of technical criteria to ensure the safety, durability, and reliable operation of the tank throughout its service life.

The result was a comprehensive technical assessment aimed at ensuring the load-bearing capacity of the foundation system and minimizing risks associated with excessive deformation, differential settlement, or loss of overall stability.
