INCIMAT carried out a wind load assessment of a cooling tower using advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) techniques, with the objective of characterizing the interaction between wind flow and the structure under different environmental conditions.
The scope of work included the three-dimensional modeling of the cooling tower and its surrounding environment, taking into account the influence of the tower geometry, terrain roughness, prevailing wind directions, and various operational scenarios of the facility.
Through CFD simulations, velocity fields, pressure distributions on the tower surface, flow separation regions, and turbulence phenomena generated around the structure were analyzed in detail.
The study enabled the determination of the aerodynamic loads acting on the cooling tower, the identification of critical wind configurations, and the provision of valuable technical information for structural verification and design optimization.
The results provided a more accurate assessment of the tower’s behavior under complex wind actions, contributing to improved safety, reliability, and long-term durability of the installation.
