CFD Assessment of Ventilation Performance in a Data Center

INCIMAT carried out an advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) study to evaluate the performance of the ventilation and cooling systems within a data center, ensuring adequate thermal conditions for the safe and efficient operation of critical IT equipment.

The scope of work included the three-dimensional modeling of the facility, taking into account the arrangement of server racks, hot and cold aisles, HVAC systems, air handling units, supply and return air grilles, as well as the thermal loads generated by the equipment under different operating scenarios.

Using CFD simulations, temperature distributions, airflow patterns, potential recirculation zones, and the effectiveness of the cooling systems were analyzed to verify the ability of the installation to maintain uniform thermal conditions throughout the data center.

The study enabled the identification of potential hot spots, the optimization of HVAC system configurations, and the evaluation of alternative design solutions aimed at improving energy efficiency and operational reliability.

The results provided a robust technical basis for both design and operational decision-making, contributing to increased system availability, reduced overheating risks, and enhanced overall performance of the technological infrastructure.
