Design and Verification of Bolted and Welded Joints in an Industrial Pipe Rack

INCIMAT carried out the design and verification of the structural joints for an industrial pipework rack, analysing both bolted and welded connections between beams, columns, bracing and auxiliary elements.

The work involved reviewing the forces transmitted by the main structure, defining plates, gussets, stiffeners, weld beads and fasteners, as well as verifying the load-bearing capacity of each joint against the design loads.

Joints subjected to axial forces, shear forces, bending moments and load combinations typical of industrial structures were analysed, whilst also taking into account the standard construction and assembly requirements for pipework racks and process plants.

This verification enabled the optimisation of the connection design, ensuring the proper transmission of forces between metal components and reducing risks associated with stress concentrations, excessive deformations or localised failures.

The result was a robust, safe and detailed solution that met the manufacturing, assembly and maintenance requirements of an industrial structure operating under demanding conditions.
